Safety Equipment HANS System  The HANS or Head And Neck Support is compulsory for use in Formula 1, WRC and Formula 3000. In Ireland it is recommended by Motorsport Ireland but is NOT Compulsary, However the subject is being review in 2010 and will be needed on international events after that.  It is also recommended for use in other forms of competitive motorsport as well as trackdays. The support can substantially reduce head and neck injuries in the event of an accident and is now available to all drivers. Three versions are available to suit the seating positions adopted in a variety of cars: 20 Degree, 30 Degree and 40 Degree inclination. The device can be used with any FIA approved harness or with any of the specially designed HANS specific FIA approved Schroth harnesses. Sizing is based on neck or collar size: 38 to 47cm (15" to 18") is medium and over 47cm (18") is large.
